Be a Mentor
Reconnect to your high school (or an under-served high school near you). Share your knowledge and connections with current students as an on- and offline mentor. Improve access to college and career-prep resources for all students. Collaborate with former classmates to build the institution’s social and human capital cache. Narrow the widening resource gap between public and private high schools. Change lives.
Apply to be a mentor as part of the BetterGrads Program.
BetterGrads offers an effective and time-efficient mentoring opportunity for college students and young professionals to make a big difference in the lives of students at the high school they once attended. The program cycle is one-year. The cost of the program for schools, students, and other participants is free.
As a mentor, you will have the opportunity to become a very important person for your mentee. You will commit to active and regular online communications, supplemented by occasional offline activities.
- At least one e-mail exchange per week with your mentee
- At least one phone call or video chat per month with your mentee
- At least one site visit per year (preferred, but not required)
- At least one group meeting per month with other mentors
- Active participation in this program for at least one year
To be eligible for this program, all mentors must complete the online Mentor Agreement Form, pass a criminal background and identity check, and agree to the terms and conditions in the Program Brochure [pdf].
If you are a college student or young professional who can commit a couple hours every month to change the life of a current student at your alma mater, you’re ready to take the first step in the process to become a BetterGrads mentor.
Begin the journey today by completing the Mentor Agreement Form and reviewing the Program Brochure [pdf].
