BetterGrads Editorial Guidelines
- Articles should be approximately 300–800 words in length.
- Articles should clearly state a theme, thesis, topic or otherwise be focused in one specific area.
- Articles should be organized and linear. (Think beginning, middle and end.) Don't be afraid of headers.
- Opinions are great! And please back them up with facts (or tangible experiences at least).
- BetterGrads strives for Associated Press (AP) style. Slang and informal language are acceptable if justified by the article's context and formatted clearly and consistently. Avoid jargon.
- Content may consist of text, hyperlinks, photos and video.
- Self-promotion is not encouraged, but a short detailed bio will be included at the end of your article.
- No plagiarism. Duh.
What to Expect as a BetterGrads Guest Contributor
- You will be asked to submit a draft of your article and a 50–100 word bio. Include your academic background and information relevant to your article.
- Expect at least one round of edits and suggestions from our editorial team. Please re-submit your revised article within 3 days of receiving edits.
- Your article will be published within one week of your final submission, unless otherwise noted.
Privacy and Compensation
- Guest contributors are volunteers and are not paid for their work.
- If you wish to use a pseudonym, you must inform us before your article is published.
- Your article will be posted and/or linked to from the BetterGrads Facebook page and Twitter account.
Content License Agreement
By submitting content to BetterGrads through Bettergrads.org, any BetterGrads team member operating in their official capacity, or to any @bettergrads.org e-mail address, you understand and agree to the following terms:
- You own all of the content and information you submit to BetterGrads or otherwise have the legal right to post or submit that content. However, you specifically give BetterGrads the following permission: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, publish and distribute that content and information at BetterGrads' sole discretion.
- As policy, BetterGrads will consider any request you make to remove attribution on published versions of your submitted content, although BetterGrads is not liable for any failure to do so.
