Guidelines

If you're interested in becoming a guest contributor for the BetterGrads blog, please take a look at our editorial guidelines.

BetterGrads Editorial Guidelines

  • Articles should be approximately 300–800 words in length.
  • Articles should clearly state a theme, thesis, topic or otherwise be focused in one specific area.
  • Articles should be organized and linear. (Think beginning, middle and end.) Don't be afraid of headers.
  • Opinions are great! And please back them up with facts (or tangible experiences at least).
  • BetterGrads strives for Associated Press (AP) style. Slang and informal language are acceptable if justified by the article's context and formatted clearly and consistently. Avoid jargon.
  • Content may consist of text, hyperlinks, photos and video.
  • Self-promotion is not encouraged, but a short detailed bio will be included at the end of your article.
  • No plagiarism. Duh.

What to Expect as a BetterGrads Guest Contributor

  • You will be asked to submit a draft of your article and a 50–100 word bio. Include your academic background and information relevant to your article.
  • Expect at least one round of edits and suggestions from our editorial team. Please re-submit your revised article within 3 days of receiving edits.
  • Your article will be published within one week of your final submission, unless otherwise noted.

Privacy and Compensation

  • Guest contributors are volunteers and are not paid for their work.
  • If you wish to use a pseudonym, you must inform us before your article is published.
  • Your article will be posted and/or linked to from the BetterGrads Facebook page and Twitter account.
