Good Advice
After reading Elizabeth’s post, I also wanted to emphasize the importance of using academic advising services.
Meeting with your major’s department is important to do early and often. If you are unsure about your major, ask an adviser which classes you should start with. And as you progress in school, you should visit the office to make sure that you are on track to graduate.
These advisers also have strong connections to professionals in your field. I got two internships through my academic adviser, and also learned how to get academic credit and transcript notation.
Another type of advising you can get is with your paper writing. I am thankful (obligatory Thanksgiving reference) that my school had a paper editing service on campus. After receiving my grade back on my first college paper, I realized that grading is more difficult in college. I got help with editing my papers, and my grades improved.
Nearly all college academic advising services are free, so take advantage of any and all of them.
